Is Washington listening on global warming?

Last month, Miami was in the eye of a global storm over how to address global warming, as it hosted the Florida Summit on Climate Change. It remains to be seen if our leaders in Washington, D.C., will respond to winds of change or bury their heads in the sand against the rising tide of state action.

Gov. Charlie Crist signed executive orders mandating an 80 percent cut in carbon emissions by 2050, a 20 percent renewable energy standard by 2020, and a stakeholder process to ensure a smooth transition. It's clear that Gov. Crist's strong leadership further pushes the United States toward a political tipping point for national action to cut global warming pollution. Gov. Crist stands with the majority of Americans who know that when it comes to global warming, the science is clear, the moral duty is unequivocal, and the time for action is now.
