Ask Your Senators to Protect Fish and Game Species by Passing the Climate Security Act
The U.S. Senate will be voting very soon on an important new bill called the Climate Security Act (S. 2191). This legislation not only sets strong targets for cutting global warming pollution, it also puts billions of dollars toward wildlife and habitat conservation.
You can make a difference in whether or not this bill is passed by contacting your senators in one of the following ways:
Personalize and send a message to your senators asking them to vote for the Climate Security Act.
- Dial the Capitol Switchboard, 202-224-3121, and ask to be connected to your senators' offices.
- Once connected, introduce yourself: "My name is _______ _________, and I live in ______, ________."
- Tell them what you are calling about: "I would like to urge Senator ______ to support the Climate Security Act (S.2191 ). I think this legislation is a great step toward reducing the global warming pollution that is impacting hunting and fishing throughout the U.S."
- If you have one, add a personal story about why global warming is a concern to you: "I'm an avid duck hunter and am worried about the declines I'm seeing in ducks flying south."
- Thank the person for taking your call.
- Please email us at info@targetglobalwarming.org to let us know you called.
3. Write a Handwritten Letter:
A handwritten letter is one of the most powerful ways you can let your decision makers know you care about an issue and want them to care too. Here are a few tips...
- Start your letter with "Dear Senator (Last Name),"
- Ask your senator to support the Climate Security Act (S. 2191).
- State one reason YOU are concerned about global warming. (Have you seen changes due to global warming in the areas that you hunt and/or fish? Are you worried that your child/grandchild will not be able to enjoy the same sporting traditions we enjoy today?)
- Ask your senator for a response, and include your address.
- Address the envelope to:
The Honorable [Insert Your Senator's Full Name]
c/o National Wildlife Federation
ATTN: Grassroots Action Dept.
11100 Wildlife Center Dr.
Reston, VA 20190
Because of security on the Hill, we will be collecting your letters to ensure that they reach your senator before the vote in early June.
- Please email us to let us know you sent a letter at info@targetglobalwarming.org
4. Write a Letter-to-the-Editor:
If you can get a letter published in your local newspaper, there's a good chance it will be read not only by your senators, but also by your neighbors and community leaders. Please take a few minutes to write a letter to your local newspaper to highlight the need to protect wildlife by passing the Climate Security Act!
Please email us to let us know you wrote a letter (and if it gets published!) at info@targetglobalwarming.org
