10 Iconic Fish And Game Species Impacted by Climate Change
This week National Wildlife Federation released a fact sheet highlighting risks to America's iconic game and fish species from climate change. This list includes Brook Trout, Pintail Ducks, Moose, King Salmon, Sage Grouse, Yellow Perch, Bobwhite Quail, Bonefish, Brant, and Cutthroat Trout.
This list reflects a wide range of geographic diversity from the bonefish of south Florida to the prolific Salmon runs of Alaska and demonstrates exactly what is at stake for America's hunters and anglers when it comes to impacts from climate legislation.
But America's hunters and anglers are responding to the challenge. Just last week 20 groups from America's Wildlife Conservation Partners signed onto an open letter to Senators urging passage of climate legislation this year that dedicates revenue generated from this bill to safeguard America's natural resources from climate change.
Protecting game species from climate change is just one more notch in the belt of sportsmen's long held traditions of conservation. These groups recognize climate change as one of the greatest threast to our hunting and angling heritage. Through their support of climate legislation these groups are supporting the ability to pass this heritage along to future generations of sportsmen and women.
